Elton John on his ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road’ tour: “It’s something I wanna finish”
“I finish supposedly in 2023, in the summer, by which time I’ll be 76 – and that’s it, baby”
Elton John has discussed his delayed ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road’ tour, saying it’s “something I wanna finish”.
The already-rescheduled farewell shows had been set to take place from the end of September through to December, with UK dates including gigs in London, Manchester and Birmingham.
John then confirmed last month that he was forced to reschedule his remaining 2021 tour dates to 2023, after he “fell awkwardly on a hard surface and have been in considerable pain and discomfort in my hip ever since”.
Speaking to NME for a new Big Read cover feature around the release of his new collaborative album ‘The Lockdown Sessions’, John said he is determined to finish the tour, but that it will also certainly be his last.
“It’s something I wanna finish,” he told NME. “I’m looking forward to doing it and going out on the high that we were on – we were an express train that hit the buffers. At the moment I finish supposedly in 2023, in the summer, by which time I’ll be 76 – and that’s it, baby.
